While we face Lenten sacrifice, there are other sectors of our Nation looking to bank on our deep concerns about Ukraine, rising gas prices, and inflation to fatten their wallets. Oh, the joys of a Senate hearing on the proposed nomination of one Joseph Goffman, who served under Obama in the EPA.
Now, it seems that if a government agency is called the Environmental Protection Agency its goal is to protect the environment, not line the pockets of fossil fuel barons. But some Senators don’t see it that way because when Goffman was at the Harvard Law School he criticized attempts to dismantle the EPA.
Horrors! Someone who believes the EPA should protect the environment. Goffman’s going to face a tough fight because, unfortunately certain Democratic Senators are more interested in protecting their contributors than the people. We get crucified in many ways.
Prayer for the Day
When the road seems endless, O God, empower us to be companions
And when the road is blocked, may we find ways to move us beyond the barriers;
When the road before us divides, enable us to hear your voice for the way,
And when we feel we beleaguered, give us grace to accept the help we need.
Be our source of strength as we journey during this Lenten season,
Guide us so we are able to see the other side.
In the name of the One who shows us the way,
Even Chris Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
Life is a journey that must be traveled no matter how bad the road or the accommodations.
- Oliver Goldsmith, English writer (1729-1774)
The feeling is that God is on the journey, too.
- St. Theresa of Avila, Spanish mystic (1515-1582)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.
In all your ways, acknowledge God and your paths will be straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
It will be a healing for your flesh and a refreshment for your body.
Proverbs 3: 5-8
