He didn’t “want to create a panic?” Is this for real? Over a month before this state and other states went into lockdown, during a time when hospitals were seeing sick and dying people by the hundreds every week in New York and New Jersey, and stating that the virus would go away with the warm weather and that we did not need to wear masks, Trump’s only statement is he didn’t want to create a panic?
What on earth was he thinking? That we would just accept our colleagues and friends dying while the would-be emperor just fiddled while the county burned? I don’t know if advance notice would have saved any of the people I knew who died, but the fact that plans weren’t put into place is more than I can bear.
Transparency in government is essential for a democracy to not only survive but to thrive. The utter lack of honesty regarding the virus is beyond all comprehension.
Prayer for the Day
Disquieted, we pray for our Nation during a time of turmoil, O Lord,
And ask that your grace empower us to do justice here;
Concerned, we pray for people who feel isolated and alone, O God,
And ask that your presence comfort and strengthen them.
Hold us in your embrace and breathe your spirit into us
So we rise in the dawn of a new day to live as your disciples.
In the name of the One who is with us to the end,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
If you only knock long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, American poet (1807–1882)
I get angry about things and then go on and work.
Toni Morrison, American author (1931–2019)
Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;
you stretch out your hand, and your right hand delivers me.
You will fulfill your purpose for me; your steadfast love endures forever.
Psalm 138:7-8a
