According to QAnon and now Iowa Senator Joni Ernst, doctors have been inflating the number of deaths from Covid-19 because, according to Ernst and the fringe Q, health care professionals get paid a higher rate for Covid-related illness. Talk about misreading the CARES Act, which, by the way, Ernst voted for.

Health care providers testing for Covid-19 and treating uninsured persons are paid the Medicare rate, not less, not more. I always wonder: Where does QAnon get its conspiracy of the day? I suspect from nightmares.

We need to be vigilant against conspiracy theories taking hold in New Jersey. Already we in the suburbs (read white women) are being told that Cory Booker, our U.S. Senator has a secret plan to build housing projects (read black) in “our” suburbs. The polite word for this kind of conspiracy theory is “racist.” It goes along with rampaging Mexicans.

Prayer for the Day

There are days, O God when we wonder if you hear us.

When we wonder what could possibly happen next.

And then it happens––someone full of hatred with a gun,

Or another thinking that violence is the only way.

We feel we cannot be battered any more,

And we cry for peace. Be with us, O God,

As you were with the one who shows us how to live,

Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

Peace demands the most heroic labor and the most difficult sacrifice.  It demands greater heroism than war. It demands greater fidelity to the truth and a much more perfect purity of conscience

       - Thomas Merton, monk, writer (1915–1968)

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.

       - Mother Teresa, saint (1910–1997)

Understand, O dullest of the people; fools, when will you be wise?

The Lord who planted the ear, does the Lord not hear?

The Lord who formed the eye, does the Lord not see?

God who disciplines the nations, and teaches knowledge to humankind,

Does the Lord not chastise?

The Lord knows our thoughts, that they are but an empty breath.

            Psalm 94:8–11
