Summertime, and the livin’ is easy. We remember the summertimes of our youth, paying outside with friends well into the late evening.  For Sarabi Medina, a nine-year old, there will never be another summertime.  Playing with friends in a park, a man, upset at the noise she and the other children were making, took his gun, crossed the street into the park, went over to her and shot her in the head.

Sarabi’s father witnessed the shooting and ran over, tackling him and was wounded critically by a second shot.  There was no big massacre, no AR-15, just a man who never should have had a gun. The massacre occurs one by one killing children.

Ringing the wrong doorbell, turning into a driveway, playing in a park. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children in America, 1,049 so far this year. And it’s only the first week of August.
