Just when we thought it would get better, a worse possibility is looming on the horizon – and I don’t mean the snow! We in New Jersey have more than one million vaccinated, the hospitalization rate has dropped, but lurking like the weather forecast are the variants that may be more deadly as well as more easily spread.

The first Congressional fatality from Covid has now occurred although one member elect died before he could take office. While our condolences go to Rep. Wright’s widow Susan, it is astounding that there are still members of Congress who do not want to abide by a mask mandate. Over 60 have been infected, many because they refused to wear masks, others infected by the non-mask wearers.

They remind me of the idiots on Route 287 today swerving in and out of traffic as if they were late for their own funerals.  Happily, there were several unmarked police cars with troopers ready to tell them that they could not try to break the sound barrier.

Prayer for the Day

Indeed, O God, we pray for those elected to office

  We pray that they will take sensible precautions as do we;

We pray for those who take not just their own lives into danger,

   But the lives of others as well as we fear new outbreaks.

Be with us, O God, as we seek to be your servants

   Caring for others as we care for ourselves.

In the name of him who cares for all,

   Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

An acquaintance merely enjoys your company, a fair-weather companion flatters when all is well, a true friend has your best interests at heart and the pluck to tell you what you need to hear.

We can all make a difference in the lives of others in need, because it is the most simple of gestures that make the most significant of differences.

God has told you, o mortal, what is good and what the Lord requires of you,

   But to do justice and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.
