As many of those who know me also know I don’t keep my cell phone on during the day.  I do check it once a day –well, to be truthful, probably once every other day.  It’s not that I really don’t want to talk to people, it’s just that my days usually are so packed that I don’t have time to answer all the junk phone calls that come in.

There’s a part of us all that really does not like technology crashing in on us as essential as it seems to be in today’s world. We all need a time of quiet, a time to just sit still and let our thoughts float. We all need a time to step back from the world and its pressures.

An old friend of mine once commented there are two types of people:  Larks and owls, the early morning types and the late night types.  That’s true to some extent. But now, as fall is approaching, the early mornings are no longer light and even the birds aren’t up until the sun is ready to appear. The cicadas are starting their underground cycle again so it’s just really quiet.  Quiet is nice.

Prayer for the Day

Waking in the early morning, I wait for you, O God,

   To give me direction for my day and tasks;

Listening for sounds of life, I hear nothing, O God,

But the sound of the keyboard as I write my thoughts.

Let us feel your presence as we all enter a new day,

So we are faithful disciples in all that we do.

In the name of him who was your faithful follower,

Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

Watching the morning break, I realize again that darkness doesn't kill the light—it defines it.
Richard Wagamese, from Embers: One Ojibway’s Meditations

What I actually love are the abundant, delicate sounds that amplify when I'm silent. These curious creaks, mutters, and hums compel my imagination.

Richelle E. Goodrich, from Making Wishes

Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you and wait.

For you are not a God who delights in wickedness, evil will not sojourn with you.

The boastful will not stand before your eyes

            Psalm 5: 3-4
