It’s clear from the attacks on environmental regulations that the end of what has been called “Earth Month” with festivals and park cleanups is coming faster than we could have imagined. Back in January executive orders were issued reopening our Jersey coast to oil and gas exploration as well as banning the construction of new windmills.
Goody! Now we can look out on our coastline and see what awaits us. Instead of those windmills destroying our view of the ocean, we’ll have oil rigs. Have you looked at the photos of what it looks like off Louisiana and Texas?
The attack on nature does not stop there, however, and we in New Jersey will not be the only ones to pay the price. Obviously the President thinks he’s better than God who had some hand in creating our world. When have excessive heat and drought, not to mention other human-made disasters, there will be no rescue because FEMA is also on the drawing board to be eliminated.
Prayer for the Day
Lord of Righteousness, we are troubled by what we see around us,
And we sometimes wonder if you hear our prayers;
We are anxious and at times fearful of the world around us
For events impinge on our hearts and minds.
Help us to understand that in spite of all, you are here
To give us hope and strength in a time of despair.
In the name of him who is your embodiment of hope,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
To people who think of themselves as God’s houseguests, American enterprise must seem arrogant beyond belief. Or stupid. A nation of amnesiacs, proceeding as if there were no other day but today, assuming the land could also forget what had been done to it.
Barbara Kingsolver, American writer
The fact is that no species has ever had such wholesale control over everything on Earth, living or dead, as we now have. That lays upon us, whether we like it or not, an awesome responsibility. In our hands now lies not only our own future, but that of all other living creatures with whom we share the Earth.
David Attenborough, environmentalist
But ask the animals, and they will teach you; the birds of the air, and they will tell you; ask the plants of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of every human being.
Job 12: 7-10
