My local town Plainfield has 31 new cases of Covid with two fatalities since Monday, and it’s only Wednesday. This makes me wonder if the idea of a vaccine is making people careless or If this is a reflection of the fact that Plainfield is a city of minorities who work in jobs with minimal protections and live in close quarters.
Minorities have been disproportionately impacted by the virus. Much of the Hispanic population live in older homes that have been chopped up into apartments, even rooms. And often multiple generations live together.
The need for social reconstruction is great here and in other parts of our Nation. I know it won’t happen overnight but the question for the rest of us is how we can help move it along. We are all a part of this community we call the United States; the key word here is united.
Prayer for the Day
We come humbly before you, O Lord, who bestows your mercy upon us.
We know we have not always acted as your children should,
We have abused your name by using it as an excuse for war,
We have not loved as you have told us to love,
Teach us, O Lord, to walk in your ways and to know your peace,
So all will be able to share in your kingdom.
In the name of him who came to show us your peace,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
The world howls for social justice, but when it comes to social responsibility, you sometimes can't even hear crickets chirping.
Dean Koontz, commentator
I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.
Mother Theresa (1910-1997)
Lord, you have been our dwelling place for all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth,
From everlasting to everlasting, you are God.
Psalm 90: 1-2
