The beauty of the last several days belies the seriousness of the threat we continue to face from the virus and its variants. Even though most people are wearing masks or some form of face covering as they are in stores and shopping areas, the warmth of the last few days is making some people careless in springtime gatherings.
During this Eastertide even as we consider the meaning of new life, now is not the time to put safety aside. It is, in fact, perhaps a time to commit ourselves to our communities and the importance of caring through the simple act of wearing a face covering.
Yesterday, the President announced that all persons over the age of 16 would become eligible for a vaccine as of April 19. Many older persons still have not been vaccinated because of the problems in getting an appointment. As the weather continues to warm and more of us are outside, it is important to get that vaccine scheduled – and to still wear a mask for others if not just for yourself.
Prayer for the Day
Perplexed we often do not know where to turn,
In a world of mixed messages, we wonder what to believe;
Given the ability to think and discern by you, O God,
Help us to look for your presence as a guide,
For it is often found in the most unlikely of places.
Embrace and guide us as we strive to live your Gospel
As did the One we follow,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
We have to learn to hear on every level at once if we are really to become whole. The problem is that most of us are deaf in at least one ear.
Joan Chittester, OSB., American religious writer
Behind your image, below your words, above your thoughts, the silence of another world waits.
John O’Donohue, from Aram Cara: A book of Celtic Wisdom
Wisdom is more mobile than any motion,
Because of her pureness, she pervades and penetrates all things,
For she is a breath of the power of God,
And a pure emanation of the glory of the Almighty;
Therefore nothing defiles gains entrance into her.
For she is a reflection of the eternal light, a spotless mirror of the working of God.
Wisdom of Solomon 7: 24-26
