Usually the Wednesday morning meditation focuses on the environment, the natural world we share with God’s creatures. Today, however, I want you to know what your generosity has meant to people in Ukraine. Our donation to World Central Kitchen has made a real difference for so many who have been fleeing the Russian invasion and bombardment.
In his letter from Ukraine, José Andrés thanks everyone, including all of you, who have contributed to helping to feed Ukrainian refugees. Building a network of chefs, cooks, and churches, we are feeding the many hungry not only in Poland but in Ukraine itself.
This terrible war has destroyed so much, but it has not and cannot destroy the human spirit, Read Jose’s letter on the link and realize that together we still can continue to live in hope that God’s realm of peace and justice will ultimately prevail.
Prayer for the Day
You call us, O God, to be instruments of your peace,
But there are times, we look to rules rather than love;
Help us, O Lord, to be beams of light shining in the darkness,
Enabling those who need our help to find the light.
Bring us from a time of fear into a time of hope
So we are able to bring that hope to others.
In the name of the One who opens the future,
Even Christ Jesus ur Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark
- Warsan Shire, Somali British poet from Teaching my mother how to give birth
Recognize yourself in he and she who are not like you and me.
- Carlos Fuentes, Mexican novelist and essayist (1928-2012)
When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. Leave it for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the LORD your God.
