Remembering the impact of storms like Sandy and Ida, we shudder at the impact the storm will have on north Florida, southeast Georgia, and coastal areas of South and North Carolina. As people evacuate, they are being told they can take their pets, that shelters and hotels will take them.
The need to protect your pet even in such a storm has dissuaded people in the past from evacuating. Hopefully, all the preparations will mitigate the damage from the storm. And, from the weather reports, this will be a big storm.
Those satellite images actually show two storms, but Franklin is supposed to keep off the Eastern coast and seems to be weakening as Idalia strengthens due to the very warm water in the Gulf and makes landfall this morning. And like the Mississippi, the fossil fuel lobby just keeps rolling along.
Prayer for the Day
O God beyond all comprehension,
Pour out your mercy upon us, we pray;
Open our eyes blind to the world around us,
And our ears deaf to the cry of the earth we inhabit.
Your Holy Spirit is a window to all around us,
Let it breathe your power and your strength on us
In the name of the One who shares your Spirit with us
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
There's always another storm. It's the way the world works. Snowstorms, rainstorms, windstorms, sandstorms, and firestorms. Some are fierce and others are small. You have to deal with each one separately, but you need to keep an eye on what’s brewing for tomorrow.
- Maria V. Snyder, novelist
In the age of technology there is constant access to vast amounts of information. The basket overflows; people get overwhelmed; the eye of the storm is not so much what goes on in the world, it is the confusion of how to think, feel, digest, and react to what goes on.
- Chriss Jami, American poet, essayist, and musician
O Lord God of hosts, who is as mighty as you O Lord?
Your faithfulness surrounds you.
You rule the raging of the sea; When its waves rise, you still them.
Psalm 89:8-9a
