Chilly nights and relatively mild days with fluctuating temperatures. Granted, it’s in a sheltered area, but there’s a primrose that bloomed two weeks ago and it’s still blooming. The forsythia at the edge of the church parking lot is partially in bloom although the weather report says we will have nights in the 20s next week.
Though a few winter birds are coming to the bird feeders in the yard, there are still some warm weather birds still hanging around. I hope they leave before it gets too cold for them. The sunrise is later now but the colder mornings bring shades of pink to the clouds in the eastern sky against the starkness of leafless branches.
A new feral cat, still unsure whether it’s safe, is coming up on the deck looking for its breakfast. I’m wondering where it’s spending its nights, perhaps in the neighbor’s old garage, the one with the broken window. Time to replenish the bird feeders and to start the day.
Prayer for the Day
With your hand you brought us out of the dust,
And with your breath you gave us life;
With your heart you formed us into your likeness,
And with your spirit you made us sentient beings.
May we respond to the power of your love to the world
And to all creatures that inhabit the earth.
In the name of him who embodied your love,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive, to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.
Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor and philosopher (121-180)
Every morning the world is created. Under the orange sticks of the sun that heaped ashes of the night and turned into leaves again….
Mary Oliver, poet, from Morning Poem (1935-2019)
It is good to give thanks sto the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Mot High;
To declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness at night.,
To the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre.
For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work,
at the work of your hands I sing for joy
Psalm 92: 1-4
