Yesterday the weather channel said we would have sun today; however, this morning’s weather report said we will have more clouds and possibly more snow. But, wait! Just remember that at 4:49 PM we will cross the midpoint of winter. We may have six more weeks of winter but spring is slowly on its way.
The seed catalogs arrived last week but the question arises where to put the plant pots. The dining room table looks like a good place except for the little monster kittens I took from Elaine. I can just see them now: Oh, boy! More plants to dig up.
According to the timeanddate website, the sunrise time is set for 7:05 but there’s not even a rose hue on the horizon. Another real winter day. But, it’s a lot colder in other places. Take Helsinki, for example, where the temperature will be Celsius -20 (that’s -4 in Fahrenheit terms). Or Alaska where Nick and Eric are. The temperature will rise to 7 degrees. Now, aren’t you glad you live in New Jersey or on the Eastern seaboard?
Prayer for the Day
Gazing out on the snow, we do not forget to bless you, O Lord,
For we know that eventually it will melt and spring will come;
Searching our hearts, we ask that you warm them with your love,
For we know as well there are many without good shelter.
Grant us your grace so we care for the homeless and the hungry
For we also know you call us to feed and provide shelter.
In the name of the One who calls us to care,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.
- Victor Hugo, French novelist (1802-1885)
I hear from my Inuit and Yupik relatives up north that everything has changed. It's so hot; there is not enough winter. Animals are confused. Ice is melting
- Joy Harjo, Native American poet
For as the rain and snow come down from heaven,
And do not return there until they have watered the earth,
Making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty,
But it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55: 10-11
