The view from Liberty State Park is nothing less than spectacular. There is, first and foremost, a view of Lady Liberty, holding her golden torch welcoming all those who have come to our Nation and contributed to our development. However, there are still areas that are fenced off due to chromium contaminated soil.
It’s been more than 45 years since a master plan was first proposed for the area. Now an advocacy group is trying to get it moving, redesigned for today’s needs for open space as well as recreation and hiking. It means saving Caven Point from the hands of a billionaire who wants a golf course; it means creating space for people.
More than 50 acres of salt marsh, 27 acres of freshwater wetland, and a variety of wildlife inhabit the space. The State of New Jersey donated the land for the Bicentennial celebration. We should not have to wait until a Tricentennial to have this magnificent piece of land preserved for posterity.
Prayer for the Day
Searching for truths you would impart to us, Holy One,
We place our minds and hearts before you this day;
Seeking to discern the meaning of your Word for our lives,
We come in humility and gratitude for all that you are.
Open our minds to understanding and wisdom,
So we live this day and each day as your followers.
In the name of the One who is our guide,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
Cherish these natural wonders. Cherish the natural resources. Cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage for your children and your children’s children.
- Theodore Roosevelt, President, conservationist (1858-1919)
Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, send these, the homelsss,
Tempest-tost to me, I life my lamp beside the golden door.
- Emma Lazarus, from The New Colossus (1849-1887)
But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord, at an acceptable time, O God,
In the abundance of your steadfast love, answer me.
Psalm 69: 13
