Well, here I am in Duluth, Minnesota. The reason this is so late is that, first, I got to see what all the fuss about airline delays was about. Set to go out at 3:30 PM, after five reschedulings, the plane finally took off at 10:45 PM with lots of crabby kids who did fall asleep for the trip.
Then there’s the joy of getting into Minneapolis and finding out that the agency you rented the car from closed down at midnight. Not really wanting to walk to Duluth meant going to the only one that was open at 1:00 AM.
Finally, there was – or, should I say were – the thunderstorms, one after another. I don’t think I had ever seen lightening so spectacular, lighting up the whole sky. No wonder our pre-scientific ancestors thought God was angry, or at least giving a message. So, why Duluth? To connect with my inner Finn, a way of experiencing life. I have to remember that the Finns had and still have enormous patience – a lesson for me.
Prayer for the Day
There are times, O God, when I feel you test my patience,
And, like Job, I am not a model of that virtue;
Rebuked at times for temper and shortness at people,
We try to somehow retract our behavior.
You, O God, must have infinite patience with us, your poor creatures,
For we know we need a touch of yours during our days.
In the name of the One who showed us how to be patient,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen
Thoughts for the Day
Patience is not simply the ability to wait; it’s how we behave while waiting’
- Joyce Meyer, American author
The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it.
- Arnold H. Glasow, satirist (1905-1998)
The end of something is better than its beginning. Patience is better than pride
Ecclesiastes 7:8
