It’s definitely spring.  I did start clearing out the leaves several weeks ago late on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon into the early evening, leaving enough small twigs and leftover flower stems for birds to build nests.  Now it’s nice enough this time of morning to work on tidying up the herb garden.

The organic fertilizers in the garage, derived from plant or animal sources, are healthier for the critters and birds that inhabit the yard, not to mention for all of us humans. Why use chemical fertilizers that leave residual waste manufacturers have to store?

The process of manufacturing phosphate fertilizers actually leaves radioactive waste, stored in large open piles. In fact, Mosaic, the largest manufacturer in Florida wants to use this material for road beds in spite of health hazards. Perhaps if we all boycotted chemical fertilizers and switched to organic, we and the environment would be healthier.

Prayer for the Day

Source of our being, we thank you for the beauty of the morning,
     You who are the root of our faith and our promise of redemption;
You have given us the power of imagination and thought
So we able to transform the world from death to life.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Heart of our faith, you catch our hearts as well as our minds
Teaching us the power of love and humility.
In the name of the One who is the face of your love,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

The glory of gardening:  hands in the dirt, heads in the sun, heart with nature.  To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body but the soul.
     - Alfred Austin, British poet (1835-1913)

A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift; above all, it teaches entire trust.
Gertrude Jekyll, British horticulturalist, garden designer (1843-1932)

The Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your needs in parched place,
And you shall be like a well-watered garden, like a spring of water
       Whose waters never fail.
    Isaiah 58:11

One can meet God in the garden --
