It’s supposed to be the busiest travel day of the year, but judging from the traffic yesterday, it seems that travel began earlier.  The cold morning yielded a reasonably moderate November day. But this morning’s news of yet another mass shooting, this time in a Virginia Walmart, must give us all pause.

The shooter – hate that word—that man was a killer – is dead.  All the local politicians are expressing sympathy for the families, of course, but are any of them supporting any sensible legislation on controlling access to semiautomatic weapons?  No. They just starting spouting Second Amendment rights and other such garbage.

The idiots on the Supreme Court – oops!  Honored Justices, right? – keep expanding so-called gun “rights.”  Of course, none of them go into Walmarts or Krogers.  They send their servants out, or maybe they just order from Amazon. We need more than words of sympathy, thoughts, and prayers. When will this madness end?

Prayer for the Day

We come, Holy Friend, to seek direction in our lives,
    For without you, we drift into aimlessness;
Help us to move beyond our own preoccupations,
And recognize your power in the world around us.
Renew for us the wonders of your mercy so we go
into the world to we live the Gospel we preach
In the name of him who gives meaning to our lives,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

I will not rest until we find the solutions to end this gun violence epidemic in our country that has taken so many lives.
       - L. Louise Lucas, Virginia State Senator from District of Killings

I will not sign any legislation that has anything to do with imposing limitations on our Second Amendment. By the time I’m done, we can do that
      - Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, in June 2022

To you, O Lord, I call; my rock, do not refuse to hear me,
For if you are silent to me, I shall be like those who go down to the Pit.
Hear the voice of my supplication as I cry to you for help,
As I lift my hands toward your most holy sanctuary.
Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who are workers of evil,
Who speak peace with their neighbors while evil is in their hearts.
    Psalm 28: 1-3
