Let’s see now:  the number of reported Covid cases was up 1200, some of the increase due to the fact that Tuesday generally sees weekend reporting but 50 more than last Tuesday and the transmission rate, a number not skewed by the weekend was up a notch.

With higher numbers and rates, this is the day that certain state legislators decide to decry a requirement that people entering the Capitol building show evidence of vaccination or test negative for Covid-19. Divided along party lines, and claiming that this requirement limits public participation,” the objecting legislators support the equality of infection.

Unvaccinated visitors can still enter; they just need to test negative. You can bet your bottom dollar that the objecting members have been vaccinated or tested.  When did common sense become so political?

Prayer for the Day

You find us, O Lord, where we are, not where we would like to be;

     May we be open to your grace and to your power.

You find us, O God, in the bustle of our work and our daily lives;

     May we respond to your call and listen to your word.

You embrace us even when we resist your love

     And hold us when we are in despair.

In the name of him who moves us beyond despair,

     Even Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

Science is not a substitute for common sense but an extension of it.

            Willard Van Orman Quine, American analytic philosopher (1908-2000)

As liberty and intelligence have increased the people have more and more revolted against the theological dogmas that contradict common sense and wound the tenderest sensibilities of the soul.

            Catherine Beecher, American abolitionist (1800-1878)

May God grant me to speak with judgment,

   And to have thoughts worthy of what I have received;

For God is the guide even of wisdom and the corrector of the wise.

   For both we and our words are in God’s hand,

As are all understanding and skill in crafts.

            Wisdom of Solomon 7: 15-16
