The one benefit of the miserable weather we’ve been having over the past few days is that my cat Bruce decided that he would rather come inside and stay on my lap as I read a book.  The warm body of a cat adds to your own comfort with the kind of weather we’ve been having and the soft purr just makes you feel good.

Cats have character and personality.  Even the Terrible Twins, two small cats that have a habit of getting into everything have singular personalities. One of them mews and purrs; the other is totally silent but more inquisitive, pushing the old jug put against the door to keep them in the kitchen so he can go about exploring the house.

Then there’s the cat that came onto the deck last spring, now even letting me pick him up. Before that one comes in for the winter, he needs a trip to the vet to check him out and to get neutered.  None of my cats read books like the AAUW cats but I wonder if I could teach them.

Prayer for the Day

Opening our whole selves to the earth and the heavens, O God,
   We come to you as the nights grow longer and the days shorter;
We listen for the Voice we know is both within and without,
And wait for your direction in our lives.
Breathing in your Spirit, let your Presence envelop us,
So we are one with you and the universe around.
In the name of the One who opens us to your Presence,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods.  They have not forgotten this.
     - Terry Pratchett, English novelist (1948-2015)

If someone was out all day we wouldn’t just give them one cat, but two so they wouldn’t be lonely.
     - Celia Hammond, former model, now animal rights activist

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight
In all your ways acknowledge God so that your paths may be straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes, but fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
It will be a healing for your flesh and a refreshment for your body.
        Proverbs 3: 5-8
