The governors of the tristate area have all mandated masks for students and teachers in public and private schools.  New York’s mandate is probably the toughest.  The city will require evidence of at least one dose of a vaccine for most public indoor activities.  New Jersey hasn’t gone that far and although most people are wearing masks for shopping, the signs say “suggested.”

I’m vaccinated but I wear a mask whenever I go into a store—it’s a sign that I care about others as well as myself. A group of parents called “Free NJ Kids” sued in Federal Court this past week to lift the mask mandate for schools. Happily, the judge noted the CDC mandates and the rising delta variant and rejected their suit.

If my kids were of school age, I would be suing to require the mandate.  And I would refuse to send my child to school if some yoyo acted in a manner to infect my child. Those parents never rejected polio, DPT or measles vaccines for their children.  What on earth is the matter with them about the Covid vaccines or the masking?  Their willful ignorance has no right to infect the rest of us.

Prayer for the Day

Trapped in the past, we deny your grace that can empower us,

And as a consequence we deny you by our neglect of others.

Looking backward, at once was the way we lived,

We crave a time of our dreams and imagination.

Help us to walk into the future with insight and care,

Discerning how best to live in our new age.

In the name of the One who points the way,

Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen

Thoughts for the Day

The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.

Isaac Asimov, biochemist and writer (1920-1992)

I was taught that the way of progress was neither swift nor easy.

            Marie Curie, French physicist (1867-1934)

Let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing or joy,

Spread your protection over them, so those who love you may exult in you.

For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover them with favor as with a shield.

            Psalm 5: 11-12
