In her article for The New York Times, a physician turned journalist Elisabeth Rosenthal asks why are people so opposed to wearing masks? We routinely obey other laws such as wearing seat belts and the ban on indoor smoking, but somehow the mask issue has taken on political repercussions that seem to make no sense.

Is it because we really don’t think we could possibly be infected and pass the infection onto others? There seems to be the same resistance with contact tracing. Do we need to spawn a generation of Typhoid Marys before we take this issue seriously?

Free Covid-19 testing is now available throughout New Jersey and in many other states as well. To get tested, to protect yourself and the ones you love, go to the website and see test dates and times: covid19.nj.gov/pages/testing and find your county with dates and places. Before you go and after you go, wear a mask. The test is for a point in time; it tells you where you are now, not tomorrow or the day after.

Prayer for the Day

 We come to you in this time of change, O God, for we need your direction

     We ask that you be our constant companion in this time of uncertainty;

Open us to new ways of thinking about our lives in community

     Which now seems so confusing and troubling.

Bring us from our past into a future that is open with hope

     And help us find assurance in being your disciples.

We ask this in the name of him who calls us in discipleship,

Even Christ Jesus our Lord.

Thoughts for the Day

Integrity is a powerful force, keeping you alive to others, long after you have left their presence.

Mollie Marti, psychologist

Not for ourselves alone are we born.

Marcus Tulio Cicero (106–43 BCE)

Happy are those whose help is in God,

      whose hope is in the Lord their God,

who made heaven and earth,

      the sea, and all that is in them,

who keeps faith forever;

      who executes justice for the oppressed,

      who gives food to the hungry.

Psalm 146:5–7
