The bird feeder needs to be constantly replenished. I see more birds this spring than I did last year. Already the rosy paul finches are here, waiting for the blue jays to fly off so they can get to the big feeder. The small house wrens still prefer the feeder next to the forsythia; so do the deer because they can reach the bird seed.
I’ve always wondered how the world looks from a bird’s point of view, soaring high above us. It must look like those photos of beautiful lakes and wild forests we see. But the beauty I like is what I can see from the ground with the emerging wildflowers that are a delight and surprise.
In spite of the cool snaps we’ve had, this spring came earlier than last year as well, a warning sign of what will face us in the future if we don’t tackle the power of big oil and gas, pushing for delay and delay in energy transformation. And Congress just sits. Reminds me of what John Adams says in 1776, when faced with delay on a vote for “Independency,” three or more useless men is called a Congress.
Prayer for the Day
Transfixed by the beauty of the day, Wondrous Creator,
We stand in awe of every flower we see, every sound we hear;
Embraced by the fragrance of this spring you have given us,
We draw your breath and feel your grace.
Empower us to protect the world you have given us,
Bringing to task those who bask only in money and power.
In the name of the One shares your Spirit with us,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
Believe in the power of your own voice. The more noise you make, the more accountability you demand from your leaders, the more our world will change for the better.
- Al Gore, former Vice-President, climate activist
What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.
- Jane Goodall, environmentalist
Deal bountifully with your servant, so that I may live and observe your word.
Open my eyes, so I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
I live as an alien in the land; do not hide your commandments from me.
My soul is consumed with longing for your ordinances at all times.
Psalm 119: 18-20
