What Does the Lord Require of Us?

Here we are, the first of May.  We have crossed 100 days of a new regime that not only defies the courts, but which, in fact, tells the third branch of our Constitutional form of government that it does not have the authority to rule on actions by the first branch. And Congress, that supposedly august body, sits in cowardly fear of losing elections.

What happened to the elected representatives?  Why are they so afraid?  Tyrants only have as much power as we ae willing to give them – at least, for now. But as fearful Members of Congress continue to let the Chief Autocrat bully them, our freedoms will diminish until it is too late.

U.S. citizen children deported, another thrown into foster care while parents now deported with no idea where their child is – this is what Americans voted for? The child, now 2, has spent a year shuttled about from one foster home to another.  What’s the difference between this and what happened at our own border or in Ukraine? What has happened to us as a Nation?  What has happened indeed?

Prayer for the Day

Knowing, O God of justice, what is required of us, we falter;

    Knowing, O God of mercy, what we must do, we hesitate;

Seeing evil in the world, we use haplessness as an excuse,

    But you tug at our sleeves and call us to respond.

Move us, O God, beyond the excuses we create for ourselves

   So we may live faithfully according to your Gospel.

We ask this in the name of the One who lived faithfully,

    Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

But I want to tell you this evening that it is not enough for us to talk about love, love is one of the pivotal points of the Christian face, faith. There is another side called justice. And justice is really love in calculation. Justice is love correcting that which revolts against love.
                Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968)

There’s really no such thing as the ‘voiceless’. There are only the deliberately silenced, or the preferably unheard.

A king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.

   The war horse is a vain hope for victory, and by its great might it cannot save.
