Where is Justice?

When CPO30 opens next week in Belen, Brazil, it will be missing the second largest emitter of greenhouse gases – the United States.  We are responsible for 11% of all the greenhouse gases emitted in the world, just behind China, which, contrary to current US policy, has pledged to reduce its emissions by 7 to 10%, which is probably not enough.

China will have enormous influence at the Conference due to our absence. India, which has announced that 50% of its electricity comes from non-fossil fuel sources, five years ahead of its target of 2030.

As icebergs and ice sheets melt, our benighted non-energy policy continues to claim that we need coal, which, of course, kills coal miners, but who cares? Certainly not the people who went to a Halloween party celebrating the wealth of the few. Their money and obsequious flattery buy them what they want while millions await SNAP funds.

Prayer for the Day

Crying out for justice, the prophets of old were shunted aside,

   And so kings and their sycophants fell from power;

Crying out for justice, r people in these times know not where to turn,

    But those who feast on fat calves will also fall.

Grant, O most merciful God, that the newly elected to power,

    Remembering that you are a God of justice, help the poor.

In the name of the One who calls us to task,

   Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen

Thoughts for the Day

Because it is now clear that due to Defendants’ course of conduct, and by their own admission, undertaking a partial payment plan at this point cannot meet the Court’s directives or adequately remedy the harm Plaintiffs are suffering, the Court should grant Plaintiffs’ motion to enforce and should temporarily enjoin and compel Defendants to release the withheld funding, in its entirety, for November SNAP benefits.

"My monthly rent is $895 which includes utilities except for my phone bill. We have medical expenses for my son's disability, but no additional funds to cover them."

Give justice to the weak and the orphan;

   Maintain the right of the lowly and the destitute

     Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
