Who or What is Next?

For those of you who were shivering in the damp yesterday, it was the first day of spring. We should be grateful we only had rain.  Further north, called a winter storm (it sure looked like it), there was snow and lots of it.  And down south, way down south in the Antarctic summer, a huge iceberg broke off gifting us with a view of sea life never seen before

Life in Washington reflects a bit like the iceberg break – a huge massive block floating into God knows where. Bent on retribution, the new regime blocked Seattle law firm Perkis Coie from representing its litigants in federal court because it had represented Democrats.  A federal judge ruled that the regime overstepped its bounds.

So where do we go? Most lawyers don’t work for the mega law firms but the message is clear to lawyers everywhere:  If you opposed me in the past, you’ll pay a price. Buckle down and stay silent. After attacking universities, lawyers are next.  That’s how tyranny grows. Remember the words of Martin Niemöller: First, they came for …. They clearly are for this time.

Prayer for the Day

Setting his face toward Jerusalem. we shudder, O God,

   For we fear how we may be called to follow the One;

Wanting the walk on the road to be in the past, O Lord,

   We do not want to face the Pilate of our time.

Strengthen us, O Holy One, for we are weak of spirit,

   Fearing the disruption of our fragile lives.

In the name of the One who gives us courage,

   Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen

Thoughts for the Day

What is the value of a Christianity in which Jesus is worshiped as Lord, but Christian discipleship—"the way of Jesus"—is regarded as largely irrelevant to life in the modern world?"

            René Padilla, Ecuadorian theologian (1932-2021)

Dare to declare who you are. It is not far from the shores of silence to the boundaries of speech. The path is not long, but the way is deep. You must not only walk there, you must be prepared to leap.
-          Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1175)

Do not fear, for I am with you; be not afraid, for I am your God;

   I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

            Isaiah 41: 10
