As the warm waters of the Gulf add to the increasing fury of Hurricane Milton, the Amazon has reached its lowest level in recorded history, due to the changing climate, in spite of the deniers who want to keep drilling. There is some good news on the battle, however. In spite of the oil industry wanting to gut certain EPA regulations on methane and mercury, the Supreme Court let the rules stay in place.
Not so on the abortion front, however, as the Court reinstated the Georgia law on a 6-week ban on abortion, refusing to hear a challenge to the law. At six weeks, many women don’t even realize they’re pregnant.
The Court let stand a federal appeals court decision blocking the federal emergency care act in Texas providing emergency abortion care. There’s been one death so far when a woman was denied emergency care, in Georgia. I wonder if it’s possible to charge the Justices with being accomplices to murder if a woman dies in Texas? Now, there’s an interesting thought.
Prayer for the Day
We have so much on our minds, O God,
As a hurricane churns its way causing destruction;
We sometimes wonder and even doubt, O Lord,
Whether you hear our prayers and concerns.
Grant, O merciful One, that we not lose faith in you,
For we know much comes from our own doing.
In the name of the One we call upon to be our rock,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
Doubt is often a sign that your faith has a pulse, that it's alive and well and exploring and searching. Faith and doubt aren't opposites, they are, it turns out, excellent dance partners.
Rob Bell, pastor
Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd
Voltaire, French writer (1694-1778)
The mighty one, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth
From the rising of the sun to its setting.
Our God comes, and does not keep silence; before God is a devastating fire,
And a mighty tempest all around
Psalm 50: 1, 3
