As the world continues to revolve and we on Planet Earth continue to wonder about how we will be able to continue living as we have in the past, seemingly insignificant matters to the larger scale of things but deeply significant to us take over our lives. We often find ourselves in a tizzy, to use an old-fashioned phrase when life comes crashing in.
We’re often not sure what to be concerned about next. Should we worry that the Hantavirus, which killed 11 persons who had been in close proximity, will be the next pandemic? The low survival rate of infected persons should give us pause, especially as four people on a cruise ship also died of the virus.
Although some passengers isolated in a hospital, the CDC said the rest could isolate at home, which means they could go out in public, if they choose. WHO officials said there “seemed to be” no reason to suspect a large outbreak was coming, but considering how the CDC has been gutted of many scientists, we cannot do the research to find out.
Prayer for the Day
We come together in hope for peace in a time of discord,
For we are torn in senseless differences over symbols;
Help us to share the life that sprouts from obscurity and pain,
The men, women and children who seek to sow peace.
Be with us, O God, as we strive for a sense of community
At this important time in our personal lives and society.
In the name of him who showed us the way to make peace,
Even Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Thoughts for the Day
I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. I will not refuse to do the something I can do.
Helen Keller, Educator for the blind (1880-1968)
To the person who does not know where he wants to go, there is no favorable wind
Seneca, Roman Stoic philosopher (4 BCE-65CE)
I call upon you, O God, for you will answer me; incline your ear to me, hear my words: Wondrously show your steadfast love, for you are the savior of all who seek refuge.
Psalm 17:6-7
